Welcome to The Vine: An Intergenerational Approach To Discipleship!

Our Sunday morning Faith Formation classes meet from 8:45-9:45 a.m. The classes are offered in a 4 week series and each series has several workshops for you to choose from held in rooms in and around the Parish Hall. Each workshop or group will have a specific focus but will be held together by a central theme. The themes will change every 4 weeks.

Here are the  workshops that will be held in March:

MYTHS & MARTYRS: THE HIDDEN WISDOM OF CHRISTIANITY led by Thomas Branton
Discover the patron saint of comedians and thieves, learn how prophets walked with angels and battled demons, and find out why God really destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. This class will explore just a few of the misunderstood stories, obscure saints, and biblical “dark passages” of the Christian tradition through history, anthropology, and mythology.

STORYTELLING AND WONDERING led by Gayle Croxton
During the Season of Lent our Storytelling and Wondering group will consider how we can make time, make space and make room in our lives as a way to get ready to come close to the Mystery of Easter and to the one who is Easter. We will share stories and wonder, work with art and story materials, and listen for silence to help us to enter this great mystery. Join us for a gathering that is both playful and deeply meaningful.

CULTIVATING PEACE THROUGH CENTERING PRAYER led by Liz Bell
Inspired by the 14th century classic Cloud of Unknowing, centering prayer is a beautiful practice of quieting the mind and opening the heart to God’s calling. The reflective season of Lent offers an opportunity to explore, strengthen or return to centering prayer as a foundational practice in our prayer life. Join us in the chapel for quiet discussion and practice of this gently meditative prayer.

Each Sunday you may choose which one to attend. You can pick a new experience every week or stick with the same workshop for the entire unit! Want to bring your whole family to a class? Want to engage in intelligent discussion with your spouse and help the kids pick another workshop to attend? Want to get with your church besties and map out your formation choices for the whole unit up front? Everyone has voice and choice in this model! Every Unit we will strive to make sure there are always workshops that are geared specifically towards younger children AND other workshops that are specifically geared towards those of us who are still “young at heart.” We hope each Unit to be able to provide you with different ways that you as an individual or you as a family can engage your faith.
