Formation Opportunities
Adult Formation in Lent
The Sunday formation group is reading The Wisdom Jesus: Transforming Heart and Mind–A New Perspective on Christ and His Message by Cynthia Bourgeault.
If you put aside what you think you know about Jesus and approach the Gospels as though for the first time, something remarkable happens: Jesus emerges as a teacher of the transformation of consciousness. The Wisdom Jesus provides a new perspective on Christ and an expansive interpretation of His message. Bourgeault creates a masterful guide to Jesus’s vision and the traditional contemplative practices you can use to experience the heart of his teachings for yourself.
Join us for wonderful discussions in between services (at 8:50 am) on 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22.
Wednesday Formation returns with ‘Eastern Christianities: History, Theology, and Spirituality,’ facilitated by Jonathan Rotondo-McCord.
The spiritual heritage of the non-Western churches is rooted in the very beginnings of Christianity, yet remains almost unknown to vast numbers of present-day Anglican, Protestant, and Roman Catholic Christians. In these sessions, we will examine the rich religious life of the Christian East, stretching in time and space from ancient Palestine to Ethiopia, from ancient Syria to India and China, and from Byzantium and Kyiv all the way to the Eastern Orthodox churches of today. We will also investigate moments and movements in which Anglicanism has been fruitfully shaped by encounters with “light from the East.”
