Christwood Retirement Community in Covington will host its Third Sunday Summer Concerts beginning July 17 in the Atrium Gallery at Christwood. The one-hour concerts begin at 5 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

Guitarist John Rankin and clarinetist Tom Fischer will perform on July 17.
Rankin is a versatile master of solo acoustic guitar. He is expert at blending a New Orleans feel with originals, jazz, folk, blues, rhythm and blues, classical guitar, and the American songbook. His powerful harmonica playing, in sync with his guitar, adds a real impact to his songs and stories. A featured solo performer at most New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals since 1981, he was a winner of the 1985 American Finger-Style Guitar Festival, and won two Big Easy Awards for Best Folk Music. Although well known as a soloist, he performs with many ensembles, including the New Orleans Guitar Quartet and The Classic Jazz Trio.

Fischer is one of New Orleans' most sought-after clarinetists. He is a featured performer at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, French Quarter Festival, Satchmo Summer Fest, Preservation Hall and jazz festivals throughout the world. He has performed in Europe, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, and Australia, to name a few, and has toured Japan on a regular basis since 1998.
All Third Sunday concerts are free and open to the public. Christwood is located at 100 Christwood Blvd., Covington, just off Hwy. 21 south of I-12 or may be accessed through the Brewster Road entrance.
